"Energinet.dk in Denmark contracts with Spirae to revolutionize grid management"
Energinet.dk, the Danish TSO company, is the owner and operator of
the high-voltage power system in Denmark. Denmark is the world
leader in integrating renewable and distributed energy sources into electric
power systems. They currently have approximately 25% wind
power penetration on their system, and their conventional generation is
highly distributed with combined heat and power plants dispersed
throughout the landscape.
In order to pursue an even greater wind penetration and glean the most
benefit from their distributed power system, Energinet.dk contracted
with Spirae to assist in developing an innovative grid management technology.
This technology will optimize the performance of the system by
maximizing the contribution from renewables and enhancing the utilization
of the distributed combined heat and power plants. In addition, this
system will ensure system stability and security with the capability to
segment portions of the system into “virtual power plants”, aggregate
resources to provide ancillary services, and provide the ability to more
easily restore power in the event of system failures.
