Meet
Dan Garvey Dan Garvey, a senior consultant and director of Spirae's
Power Systems Modeling and Simulation team, applies vast experience in control system development and
modeling to his work for Spirae clients. During his 30-year career at Woodward Governor Company, Dan
specialized in control system design for mechanical and electrical power generation. Over the years he
solved many control system challenges and developed several new control system approaches for engine and
vehicle power systems control. While at Woodward, Dan's work in control system technology resulted in
numerous U.S. patents, technical paper awards (ASME, SAE) and industrial system awards (ASME, SAE). Prior
to joining Woodward, Dan worked with the AC Electronics Division of General Motors. During his years with
GM, Dan focused mainly on technology for vehicle-mounted, gyro-stabilized fire control systems for the
military. This stimulated his lifelong interest in control systems technology and applied mathematics.
Since leaving Woodward, Dan has concentrated on island mode electric power system operation and modeling
using diesel/gas engines and steam turbines. Recent clients have included BPR-Bechtel, Caterpillar, Dresser
Rand, John Deere, Kohler, Woodward, and the United States Navy.
