Meet
Larry Adams Larry L. Adams, Spirae's Senior Controller
Design Consultant is a leading authority on the control of distributed energy resources (DER), with more than
25 years of experience in industrial electric power controls development and application. Prior to joining
the Spirae team, Mr. Adams was the Chief Engineer at Encorp, Inc, where he pioneered the development of the
Encorp Generator Power Controls (GPC) for industrial electric power generation equipment. GPC applications
include control of real and reactive power in grid connected generators, multiple generator sets in grid
isolated systems, and specialized controls for hybrid wind-diesel systems. Mr. Adams was employed at
Woodward Governor from 1978 to 1994, where he managed the specification, design and development of real-time
embedded microprocessor controls for industrial engines and generator sets. He provided technical consulting
and leadership for the engineering staff in control systems, hardware, software, and electromagnetic
compatibility (EMC) design issues, and was co-inventor of a patent for an innovative microprocessor based
speed governor with novel speed sensing algorithm. In addition, Mr. Adams was the principal engineer for
numerous controls used in both military and industrial engine/turbine generator sets, including the highly
successful Woodward 2301A Load Sharing and Speed Control the leading generator set governor that once
held more than 85% of the 150+ kW worldwide market.
