Meet
Rick Dohmen Rick Dohmen serves as an applications engineering consultant to Spirae, and brings 17 years of experience in service, design and commissioning of power
generation control systems. This includes control systems for single generators in straightforward utility
parallel configurations to highly complex multiple generator, multiple utility, and multiple load bus
paralleling arrangements. His experience spans power system controls for data centers, hospitals, CHP plants,
peaking plants, landfill, and oil rigs, and integrating systems from the majority of major engine
manufacturers. Rick Dohmen was employed at Woodward Governor in 1990, and held various positions in Field
Service, Technical Assistance, R&D, and Product Support Engineering. He joined Encorp in 1995, and provided
expertise through applications engineering, engineering services management, and business support engineering
as the company grew from 10 to a peak of 140 employees. One highlight of this experience was the design and
commissioning of a 5MW paralleling control system for a major data center in the banking industry, which
consisted of 4 generators, 2 generator buses, 2 load buses and 2 utility ties. Towards the end of his career
at Encorp, Rick was the Director of Engineering for a staff of 25. Before joining the Spirae team, Rick
worked for Wood Group and was the lead controls engineer on a 55MW geothermal steam turbine plant controls
upgrade project consisting of the upgrade of the governor control system and the balance of plant controls to
a multiple and redundant PLC based system.
