Spirae is an innovative technology company that delivers scalable smart grid solutions to global partners and customers. Spirae specializes in the integration of large-scale renewable and distributed energy resources, the development of local and wide area controls, energy service platforms and power system simulations.
Based in Fort Collins, Colorado and privately held since 2002, Spirae is a recognized thought leader in distributed power and control systems. Spirae uses pioneering active distribution management techniques to integrate high levels of renewable and distributed energy while maintaining, and improving, reliable grid operations. Spirae’s solutions are developed by our world-class team of power system and control experts who take a combined approach consisting of planning, modeling, design, laboratory testing and field validation.
Spirae’s BlueFin™ platform is central to these solutions. BlueFin™ is a state-of-the-art active distribution management technology that optimizes grid management and performance by reliably orchestrating distributed resources. As a scalable platform, BlueFin™ enables diverse applications in several areas:
BlueFin™can also be deployed for specific service applications such as:
In addition to BlueFin™Deployment services, Spirae offers grid scenario simulation services through the InteGrid Test and Development Laboratory, one of the most advanced and largest grid simulation laboratories in the world. The Lab contains end-to-end simulation equipment to simulate electrical distribution systems with significant quantities of renewable and distributed energy using real generation, distribution, control and metering equipment.
The InteGrid Lab is a collaborative testing facility co-owned by Spirae and Colorado State University that serves as a nexus of research, testing and education. The Lab enables Spirae to provide testing and validation with leading techniques for clients prior to field deployment.
Spirae also leads the Center for Smart Grid Advancement (CSGA). Working with its partners, CSGA provides a platform for training and education for the smart grid industry, as well as demonstrations, outreach and events.
With its educational partners, CSGA has launched the Smart Grid Technical Certification offered through Front Range Community College and engineering-level courses offered through Colorado State University. Spirae brings its subject matter expertise and unique facilities (the InteGrid Lab and the Network Operations Center) to illustrate complex smart grid concepts through coursework and lab exercises for technicians, professionals and policy stakeholders enrolled in these newly developed curricula.
Smart Grid Live, another CSGA initiative, is an annual event hosted by Spirae and CSGA featuring leading smart grid innovators, panel discussions, and networking with technical, governmental and business experts from around the globe. The event revolves around proven solutions demonstrated live by smart grid practitioners who share technologies, business models, best practices and lessons learned that address the complex issues presently facing the industry.
Through this initiative, Spirae and its partners are able to analyze numerous scenarios and cost-benefit comparisons to develop models in a collaborative environment that will set the foundation for smart grid innovation and large-scale implementation.
The InteGrid Test and Development Laboratory is one of the largest and most advanced grid simulation laboratories in the world.
The Center for Smart Grid Advancement is a collaborative initiative providing a forum for thought leadership and subject matter expertise to address the rapid transformation of the power industry.
