Colorado now has one of the world's largest electric grid simulation labs in the world! The Grid Simulation Laboratory is a collaboration between Colorado State University's Engines and Energy Conversion Laboratory in the College of Engineering and Spirae Inc., a privately held company based in Fort Collins. The OEMC is providing a $100,000 grant and equipment. The Colorado Economic Development Commission (EDC) and the Colorado Office of Economic Development & International Trade (OEDIT) are providing an additional $125,000 performance grant to CSU's Engines and Energy Conversion Lab.

The Laboratory will demonstrate how to integrate developing technologies, such as renewable energy sources, into the grid without negative impact. This will allow for better understanding of how to implement renewable technologies, which may differ from traditional sources, to the grid in the most reliable manner.

This technology transfer opportunity is just one of many efforts of the Northern Colorado Clean Energy Cluster led by the Northern Colorado Economic Development Corporation (NCEDC). The cluster hopes to position Northern Colorado as a "go to" region for distributed power, renewable energy and energy efficiency, power management and intelligent grid technologies.

OEMC joins local entrepreneurs, scientists, engineers, international business people, economic developers and other government officials with the goal to make energy independence viable for homes, transportation, offices and industry while strengthening the region's economic vitality.
